Caitlin Clark has been the best news for the Fever, as the star rookie is performing as fans expected from her.
However, the team will need more than her talent to do well in the league.
They are currently sitting 11th in the overall standings, with only one victory and seven defeats.
She’s also Indiana’s best player in steals (1.4) and blocks (1.1).
Despite that, she has been relegated to fourth option this season behind Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
Amid reduced opportunities, one fan criticized Fever head coach Christie Sides.
The fan wrote: “NaLyssa Smith was a walking double double last year. Shot nearly 50%.
Just came off a wildly successful overseas stint. She took 3 shots tonight.
Icing out your young talent for no apparent reason other than “she played bad defense that one time” ain’t the way to do it.”
Surprisingly, though, Smith actually liked the post, and screenshots of her like quickly went viral on social media.
With Smith having impressed in pre-season, some fans expressed sympathy for her over the ongoing situation, while others sided with Sides.
The Fever have endured a tough start to the season, with no easy recipe to turn a losing season into a winning one, not even with Clark present.
The Fever have won just once so far this season, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks, while there have been two defeats to each of the Cincinnati Sun and New York Liberty, with another defeat coming against the Seattle Storm.
Only the Washington Mystics have won less games in the Eastern Conference so far this season.
