Cameras spotted Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell taking in the Detroit Tigers game against the Oakland Athletics on the Fourth of July at Comerica Park.
Ahead of training camp, which is approximately three weeks away, there is likely more downtime for members of the Lions’ coaching staff to catch up with family and enjoy other sporting events downtown.
Unfortunately for the popular NFL head coach, the A’s blanked the Tigers in extra innings, 1-0, on a muggy evening.
Recently, rookies Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell were invited down to Detroit’s home ballpark to toss the first pitch in front of Tigers supporters.
For a coach used to witnessing quick-paced action out on the football field, watching the offensive struggles of the Tigers was likely a grind.
If Campbell has been following this season, the Tigers are among the worst offensive teams in Major League Baseball.
It was the first occasion this season the A’s, who are likely relocating to Las Vegas, were able to shutout an opponent.
“I hate the loss,” Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters, via the Detroit Free Press. “We had every chance to win the game. I counted seven at-bats that were pretty critical, and in those at-bats, we drew two walks. … They won every other at-bat with the game on the line at various points. When that happens, it’s frustrating.”
Fans took to social media to comment on how “jacked” Campbell looked, while others credited the third-year head coach for supporting the Tigers.
