Former player Monte Harrison will be showcasing a different set of talents next season when he laces up for the Arkansas football team.
Harrison, who made his last appearance in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022, intends to return to the NCAA, where he will walk on the a wide receiver.
The 28-year-old ex-MLB player was a four-star football recruit out of Lee’s Summit West High School in Missouri more than a decade ago.
He committed to Nebraska to play football and baseball, but was drafted in 2014.
Harrison played in the minors for years but made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2020.
He played two seasons with before signing with the Angels in 2022.
Harrison was traded by the Brewers in 2018 as one of the top prospects in a blockbuster deal that sent outfielder Christian Yelich to Milwaukee.
Harrison hit .240 with 90 homers, 336 RBI and 210 stolen bases in the minors.
He batted .177 with two homers and six RBI in the majors.
Harrison posted a player rating of 90 on 247Sports as part of the 2014 class, receiving offers from schools like Michigan State, Indiana, and Kansas before signing with Nebraska.
Despite signing with the Nebraska college football program in 2014, Harrison was drafted in the second round of the MLB Draft that same year and opted to instead pursue a career in baseball.
Harrison was drafted with the 50th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, but didn’t make his major league debut until 2020 during his time with the Miami Marlins.
Harrison will now be joining the Hogs who saw a fair share of struggles last season as they finished with a record of 4-8.
In the time since, the Razorbacks have seen a noticeable shake-up to their roster and staff, namely with the departure of QB KJ Jefferson, the return of Bobby Petrino, and the arrival of transfer QB Taylen Green.
