Last week at Las Vegas, Christopher Bell fell short of catching Joey Logano and locking himself into the Championship 4. Will he make his third straight trip to the NASCAR finale in Phoenix?
When the chips all fell, Christopher Bell and his crew chief Adam Stevens had a plan. That plan just fell short of Joey Logano and Paul Wolfe’s strategyto fuel-save until the checkered flag.on The Teardown, Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic talked about the missed opportunity. This now puts Bell in a position to potentially be eliminated.
Like, Bell did everything he was supposed to do. He’s not going to lie there awake at night and second-guess himself, Adam Steven isn’t going to second-guess himself,” Gluck said of Christopher Bell and his team. “They played the strategy that they essentially had to play, and Logano’s team played the strategy they had to play. One worked out, one didn’t.
“Unfortunately, the way the system is, it’s not much solace to Bell. … But you don’t know if there’s another new winner, if there’s another winner next week that moves the line or takes a spot away and then there’s another winner at Martinsville. Suddenly, if there’s three different winners, Bell could be looking at battling with Larson for the spot to go to Phoenix and that’s only seven points right now. So, you could say, ‘Oh, he’s so far above the cutline, he’s going to be fine.’ But not really. And that’s assuming he doesn’t have a bad race.”
