consecutive Super Bowl victories without wide receiver Tyreek Hill — the man who was once his #1 target — and while relying on an ensemble cast at the position (along with star tight end Travis Kelce).
However, one player who did not benefit from Mahomes’ egalitarian approach was Richie James, who spent last season in Kansas City after coming over from the New York Giants.
James was forecast as a big addition to the Chiefs’ offense, but he made only 11 catches between the regular season and the playoffs.
Now a free agent, James has sounded off on why he had such a quiet 2023 season.
James took to X/Twitter on Monday and made it clear that he has no hard feelings toward Mahomes or the Chiefs. Chiming in on a debate.
about Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, James — a former star at Middle Tennessee State — said that he “loved” playing with Mahomes, but he fell victim to circumstances outside of his control.
James was coming off a career year with Jones in New York in 2022, as he helped the Giants make a surprise playoff appearance on the strength of 569 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
But James played in only nine games during the 2023 regular season due to injury — and he reminded social media users that he was behind the eight-ball in an offense that already had Kelce, Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling ahead of him on the depth chart.
