Cornerback Terrion Arnold made short work of a situational drill for the offense when he picked off a Jared Goff pass intended for wide receiver Jameson Williams along the left sideline on the first play where the offense was starting at their own 47-yard line in a 14-14 game with one minute and 26 seconds left on the clock.
Arnold made a great break on a comeback route from Williams and made a terrific catch. Goff made his way over to Arnold on the sideline to congratulate him and give him a high five. Arnold has looked good over the first two open OTA practices.
The list of players not taking part in Thursday’s open OTA practice included big names like left tackle Taylor Decker, center Frank Ragnow, guard Kevin Zeitler, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, defensive lineman DJ Reader, outside linebacker Marcus Davenport, cornerback Carlton Davis III, linebacker Alex Anzalone, defensive back Brian Branch and safety Kerby Joseph.
The team’s mandatory minicamp takes place next week.
There were a couple minor skirmishes between offensive and defensive linemen in the first 11-on-11 team period.
After the second one, head coach Dan Campbell stopped practice and brought everyone in to have a little talk.
No more shenanigans followed.
Defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson was asked about it after practice and he said it’s part of ‘changing the mindset’ on defense.
Second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker is getting more and more comfortable in coordinator Ben Johnson’s offense.
Campbell said before Thursday’s practice that Wednesday was a great day for Hooker.
