OF T. J. Watt announcement that he is leaving Steelers Now another significant issue for team…..
The Pittsburgh Steelers are leaving no stone unturned to bolster their offense. It started with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. And now, other signings include the RB Cordarrelle Patterson, the WR Quez Watkins, and the QB Kyle Allen. While all these additions stirred the attention of experts and professionals alike, the latest signing LB Patrick Queen has increased this noise tenfold. Shedding light on the same, Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Awardee discussed Queen’s role alongside TJ Watt and the impact it will hold.

The 6x Pro Bowl DT Cameron Heyward has a new outlook on things since the Steelers roster has upgraded. He recently went to the Rich Eisen show where he talked about this new energy brought forth by the newly added members. While discussing the momentum, he particularly mentioned Patrick Queen, his role in the squad, and how he compliments TJ Watt, who already is a force to reckon with.
The conversation on the Rich Eisen show began with the host and Heyward discussing the Steelers’ new LB Patrick Queen and how it aligns with the Steelers’ defensive culture. Not only Steelers sign Queen to a 3-year $41 million deal, but they also allowed him to wear a single-digit jersey (#6), which he brought from his time with the Ravens.

However, the conversation soon shifted to TJ Watt. Jim Jackson wanted to know more about Watt from someone who plays with him on a regular. Jim Jackson inquired about Watt’s “knowledge, IQ and motor” from the Pro Bowl DT. Both acknowledged how the Watt is a pivotal part of Steelers defense and Cam Heyward added more to it.
On one hand, Heyward addressed Queen’s comments about becoming a “villain” for leaving the Ravens and going to the rival team. He said, “Nah bro, you’re just a hero now,” and acknowledged the new LB’s “flexibility” and “versatility” and what he would mean for the team. On the other hand, the 3× First-team All-Pro strongly commented, “I think TJ, thing that sticks out with TJ, he’s got a serial killer approach.”
The Walter Payton recipient added, “He doesn’t say a lot, he lets his play do the talking. You see the energy on Sundays, but everything is so calculated, everything is about no wasted steps and no wasted movements, and I just think his technique is flawless.” The Pro Bowl DT’s acknowledgment of the talent TJ Watt holds was evident from his words.
However, this isn’t the first time, he has praised the 29-year-old. When Watt didn’t win the Defensive Player of the Year Award and instead it went to Myles Garrett of the Browns, Cam Heyward put forth his candid stance regarding the same.

Heyward on Watt losing the DPOY
Watt is a multi-talented LB, who has held onto other aspects of the game besides pressuring the opposing QB. He has had 48 solo tackles, 19 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 1 interception in the 2023 season. In comparison, Myles Garrett’s stats looked underwhelming on the paper. Expressing a similar sentiment, Heyward remarked, “Man, he is a complete player. I think he was robbed of defensive player of the year. I know Aaron Donald said he was robbed a couple of years ago, but man, that dude is a complete player and he’s the best defensive player in our league right now.”

Apart from their respect for each other, one thing that Heyward and Watt have in common is their admiration for Russell Wilson. The defensive duo is excited to have a seasoned veteran in the team after a long time. Looking at this impetus, the Steelers’ fans will hope to see a successful season this year as aim to conquer the Lombardi Trophy.
