Deemed priceless after his Round 4 heroics, there’s about to be a price tag put on Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds’ boots, as he and stablemate Corey Oates throw their support behind this week’s Nine Telethon, Oatesy making an emotional return to Mater’s NCCU to supporting Queensland’s sickest and most vulnerable babies.
He and stablemate, fan favourite Corey Oates, who made a starring return to the starting squad on Good Friday, will auction their game-worn boots following the Broncos clash with the Melbourne Storm, to bolster Saturday night’s Telethon tally, raising money for Mater Little Miracles, which supports more than 2000 Queensland infants needing lifesaving care.
Oates made a special return to Mater’s Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) on Monday, taking a pair of his skipper’s boots for size, alongside 12-day old Brisbane triplets Ari, Eloise and Rocky, born 8 weeks premature.
It came almost 5 years to the day, Oates’ daughter Montana, who celebrates her birthday today, was cared for in the same room, born 3 weeks early.
“Montana was purple when she came out, and when you think of that stuff, when you walk back in there you appreciate the nurses and when you go through it you really respect what they do and the amount of effort and hours they put in,” Oates said.
