Longhorns News Every Day: Backup Arch Manning, according to Texas’ Quinn Ewers, is in “the best situation for him.” Also, take a look at this throwback
It was always anticipated that Texas Longhorns redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning would take time to learn behind (now) two-year starter Quinn Ewers. However, most folks imagined Ewers leaving ahead of the 2024 college football season, which is when Manning was presumed to take over Texas’ starting duties under center.
Life doesn’t work out how we plan, however.
Ewers recently opened up about how he thinks it’s an ideal situation for his second-year backup, reiterating what coaches and pundits alike have said of Texas’ quarterback room so far this offseason.
“Not being from the state and coming in, and it’s obviously a little different,” Ewers said during a recent episode of RG3 and the Ones, per On3. “He’s got more time to grow his pride and love for the university. Obviously, he loves the university and loves the Longhorns. But kind of being able to sit back and watch, I think it’s different than playing. So him seeing what’s going on from inside, but also outside, I think that he can get a lot of intel from that.”
“And then, obviously, another year to learn the offense and just get more comfortable within the smaller details. It’s, like, the best situation for him, I think.”
