Eddie Howe’s side were cruelly denied European football for a second successive season after finishing in seventh place in the Premier League table, and so we expect plenty of Newcastle new signings in this summer transfer window.
Still backed by their wealthy Saudi Arabian owners, we expect the Magpies to splash some cash again, although the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) will limit the amount that they and other clubs can spend.

Newcastle United have turned Lewis Hall‘s deal into a permanent one for the upcoming season, meaning that he is their most expensive signing so far at a reported £35m including add-ons from Chelsea. Odysseas Vlachodimos is the only other player that they have spent money on so far, as the Greek goalkeeper joins from Nottingham Forest for £10m, with English midfielder Elliot Anderson moving the other way for £35m in a separate deal.
Newcastle have also made two very smart free signings in both Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy. Versatile full-back Kelly joins from AFC Bournemouth, where Howe used to manage him, while experienced English goalkeeper Ruddy provides cover after the departure of Loris Karius, and helps the Magpies fulfil their homegrown quota.
Newcastle transfer rating so far: C
It has been a solid transfer window so far for Newcastle, who have shifted a lot of deadwood as well as make some smart budget signings. However, they will still need to dip into the market ahead of the new season, with cover at centre-back needed after injuries in the last campaign, as well as a natural right-winger to compete with and perhaps even surpass Miguel Almiron.
Check out the reported Newcastle transfer targets that are said to be on their wish list, as we look forward to how many of them eventually go through. Nonetheless, with rumours that the likes of Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes may have to be sold to comply with PSR rules, it will be equally as important for the Magpies to keep hold of their best players.
