11:10, June 4, 2024 | BOOKMARK F1 icon Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton complained about the Monaco Grand Prix and asked for improvements to make it more thrilling, but Damon Hill ignored their objections.
After failing to advance much in the race, Verstappen and Hamilton both lamented the Circuit de Monaco. Their positions were sixth and seventh, respectively, as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won a historic race in his native country.
The two world champions were criticizing the Grand Prix as being pointless and uninteresting, while Leclerc reveled in becoming the first driver from Monaco to win at the famous event in ninety-three years. Despite Verstappen’s lead in the standings at the moment, Leclerc’s victory brought him to within 31 points of the Red Bull star.
But Hill stuck up for the historic track and the way the race played out, citing Leclerc’s historic victory as proof that the event can create a thrilling atmosphere.

In response to a question regarding the degree of enthusiasm during the race, the 1996 winner replied, “It was great,” contradicting the opinions of Verstappen and Hamilton on the F1 Nation podcast. “I am aware that some individuals felt the Monaco Grand Prix was a tad repetitive.
However, I didn’t, and I have a long, lengthy list of explanations for why. Having another winner was fantastic. Charles was the ultimate winner as a Monegasque. According to the Express, it’s the first time in 93 years that it has occurred.
Hamilton, on the other hand, didn’t think so and voiced his displeasure with the napfest just after the Monaco Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion said, “Not much happened. Everybody drove incredibly slowly. Thus, it was irrelevant whatever tire you were using.
“We were driving seconds off the pace, I don’t know what it was like watching, but I am sure people were falling asleep.” The Mercedes driver said, “We have to find ways of spicing it up a bit more, maybe three mandatory stops?” indicating that the race needs to be altered.
Verstappen, on the other hand, was unable to control his sarcasm during the race, joking over the team radio that, considering the lack of action at the event, a pillow could have been helpful. In his post-race interviews with the media, he repeated this sardonic criticism by highlighting his sixth-place start and finish.

Verstappen bemoaned after the race, saying, “It wasn’t really exciting, because you know you can’t pass around here, so nobody really wanted to stress their tires too much.” It is somewhat regrettable. On the straights, we’re going four seconds slower than usual, in a higher gear than we normally would, and we’re driving at practically half-throttle.
It’s not exactly racing, that. In Monaco, we all understand what it’s like. The width of the cars has made things even more challenging in recent years, but this is nothing new. If it were possible, I would like to make a few minor changes to make it more exciting.
“The Sunday race is a little bit monotonous, but overall the weekend is absolutely awesome. Although I think the view is still amazing, I would much rather if we could figure out how to race more effectively. And I would attempt to explore what is feasible if they asked for my advice.”
Verstappen was able to hold onto his lead in the Formula One standings despite the lackluster event. Hamilton, meanwhile, sits in ninth place, 12 points behind George Russell of Mercedes and 127 behind Verstappen.
