Pro Football Focus presents an explanation for why the Carolina Panthers won’t qualify for the postseason in 2024, despite the fact that few people believe the team will.
The national media released a list of the one-and-only reasons why each NFC team failed the NFL’s final exam.
As fall gives way to winter, Pro Football Focus asserted that the Panthers will not come close to playing meaningful football if Bryce Young doesn’t improve in his second season.
Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness writes, “Year 2 of Bryce Young’s NFL career will be pivotal— not just for him but also for the Panthers.” “The addition of Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette at wide receiver, along with new head coach Dave Canales, will allow the 2023 first overall pick to advance.” Even still, he still has a ways to go as his 56.0 PFF grade from the previous season placed him 37th out of 39 quarterbacks who dropped back at least 200 times.”
Young is mostly to blame if Carolina fails to qualify for the postseason. But it won’t be everything.
The ineffectiveness of the offensive line, the lack of output from tight ends and wide receivers in the pass-catching game, and the dysfunctional coaching staff were the main causes of Young’s difficulties in his first season.
Although Young’s rookie year was underwhelming, it wasn’t entirely his fault. That was a situation where any rookie quarterback would have struggled.
After a change in leadership, the acquisition of a quarterback whisperer in Dave Canales, improvements to the offensive line, and the selection of a real No. 1 wide receiver, Carolina will have failed in multiple areas, not just Young, if they are not successful in the postseason.
I feel good about blaming Young for everything. As the first choice in his rookie season, he was let down by guys like C.J. Stroud, who saw almost instant success. However, Young’s challenges need to be understood in the context of everything in life. It is necessary to apply the same context going forward.
