With Chris Shula as their new defensive coordinator and a number of fresh young players to base the defense on, the Los Angeles Rams defense underwent a makeover during the summer.
Though the Rams also selected Brennan Jackson and Tyler Davis to help with the process, Jared Verse and Braden Fiske are anticipated to help cover the vacuum left by Aaron Donald. Despite their youth, Kobie Turner, Byron Young, and Ernest Jones will spearhead the effort in the meantime.
With the addition of former Buffalo Bills All-Pro Tre’Davious White to Los Angeles, even the secondary will appear much different. Even though White is currently rehabbing from an Achilles tear, the Rams signed him to a $10 million, one-year contract.
Though it’s unclear if White will be ready for Week 1, head coach Sean McVay gave a good update on his recuperation.
It’s true that he’s progressing well, McVay recently remarked. He could participate in the walkthrough.
He has evidently recovered from a serious injury. He’s completed a great deal of worthwhile side projects. He appears to be fully focused and involved in the conference environment. We’ll see where he is at in terms of his real process in training camp. Since he performs so brilliantly and is aware of his body, I don’t think we should limit ourselves to using just one strategy. Now, how does he feel? How does he look in terms of when (Head Team Physician) Neil ElAttrache will check on him and what will be best for him throughout the season, not just to hopefully be ready for the opener?
Unfortunately, White has had several chronic leg injuries since entering the league, which casts doubt on his decision to sign with the Rams. Nonetheless, it was rumored that other teams attempted to sign him as a free agent, which may indicate that he is headed for an early 2024 season.
When in peak form, White is a formidable shutdown cornerback who can shut down one side of the field. If he can get back to his previous level of play, the Rams will have scored a steal.
Tre’Davious White discusses why, in free agency, the Rams were a good fit for him.
Tre’Davious White has a history of injuries, but his upside makes him a risk worth taking, and Los Angeles has a clear plan for helping him recover. He gave an explanation of his decision to sign with the Rams as opposed to his other possibilities once he signed with them.
