Texas’s Arlington (AP) With a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday night, Jake Rogers drove home two runs, including the game-winning drive in the eighth inning, helping the Detroit Tigers return to.500.
Originally from West Texas, Rogers now resides in the Frisco, Texas, neighborhood of Dallas. In the eighth inning, he crushed a 1-1 cut fastball from José Leclerc (3-4) barely inside the left field foul pole with two outs. In the third inning, he smashed a two-out home run against Nathan Eovaldi. The 29-year-old Rogers increased his season home run tally with his third two-home run game of his big league career.
Along with Angel Stadium, his four career home runs at Globe Life Field match his career high at a rival field.
The Tigers’ No. 9 hitter, Mike Rogers, stated, “I don’t know if my family would let me back in if I didn’t leave with a homer.”
Texas pitchers went 20 innings without giving up a run before his first home run.

In his longest bullpen appearance, Beau Brieske (1-0) struck out four in three scoreless innings. Before retiring Leody Taveras on a flyout in the ninth inning, Brieske gave up a double to Ezequiel Durán with two outs that bounced off first base and down the right-field line.
Brieske’s performance in the seventh and eighth innings persuaded Tigers manager A.J. Hinch to let the pitcher finish. In the seventh inning, Brieske struck out three batters on called strikeouts after retiring the first six batters.
Hinch remarked, “That kind of ending doesn’t happen very often.”
Detroit (30–30) has won their last two games.

After a 2–12 slump, Texas (29–31) had won five straight games. The Rangers outhit Detroit 8–4, but they left eight runners stranded and went 0 for 7 when they had runners in scoring position.
“The men performed admirably,” Venable remarked. “There were times when we had chances, but we just couldn’t get that one more hit.”
Marcus Semien hit his fourth leadoff home run of the year and his 28th in his big league career to start the game. Tarik Skubal, who reduced his ERA to 1.97 after giving up seven hits in six innings, was the source of the drive.
With two singles, Corey Seager increased his hitting streak to sixteen games.
On just 71 pitches over 5 2/3 innings, Eovaldi gave up one run and three hits in his second start since returning from the injured list. For 16 straight games, the starting lineup for the Rangers has given up three earned runs or fewer.
Justyn-Henry Malloy of Detroit was selected from Triple-A Toledo to make his major league debut as a designated hitter. Malloy had two strikeouts and was 0 for 3. He flew out to the right-center warning track in his first at-bat.
