Collin Sexton is a player who the Los Angeles Lakers may be considering trading for as the NBA summer gets underway.
The Los Angeles Lakers can now start thinking about revamping their roster since they have J.J. Redick as their new head coach. Although LeBron James has the option to opt out of his deal in the last year, it is highly likely that he will re-sign. In order to help the Lakers become a serious contender in the Western Conference again the following season, they might consider trading for another player of All-Star caliber.
It could be challenging to identify the ideal trading target, though. The good news for the Lakers is that this offseason should see a robust market for potential targets. There will probably be a good balance of well-known brands and some unexpected new ones.
As per a recent report, the Lakers might consider trading for Collin Sexton this offseason in addition to returning to their earlier interest in Dejounte Murray.
Would the Los Angeles Lakers be a good fit for Collin Sexton?
Theoretically, there are grounds for optimism that Sexton and the Lakers might get along well. But the real question would be what the Lakers would get in exchange for Sexton. Sexton has been a hit-or-miss player throughout his career, primarily because of injuries and poor fit. However, Sexton may be able to start over with the Lakers as he attempts to restart his career.
But for the first time since his knee injury, Sexton started to resemble his old self a little more this past season. Sexton is coming off a season in which he shot 35% from 3-point range and 49% from the field to average 19 points and five assists a game. Even still, at just 25, Sexton might be a risk worth taking for the Lakers.
Naturally, everything hinges on the Lakers’ assessment of Sexton’s readiness to play a key role in a championship run. The Lakers would need to be certain of that before they pursued him. Sexton is undoubtedly on the long list of players the Lakers could consider pursuing as the offseason gets underway.
