Dafydd Huw Craven-Jones, 18, and Morgan Jones, 17, died after the collision near the village of Penkridge, police said.
Officers said a 17-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital after the crash where she later died.
Dafydd Huw’s family described him as a “beautiful soul” and “the kindest loving person you could wish to meet”.
“Daf would do anything for anyone, albeit moan if he had to tidy his bedroom,” they said.
“We just want to thank his friends for all the wonderful messages and memories they have shared of him and that his short life was filled with lots of love and happiness.”
Morgan’s family said he was a “very popular young man” who was “loved by everybody”.
Officers said the crash involved a single vehicle – a Ford Ka.
Police said another 17-year-old female passenger remains in hospital in a stable condition.
A spokesperson for Wrexham Rugby Club said the boys were members of its youth team.
“They were good friends on and off the field of play and the void they leave will not be filled,” they said.
“The club has been overwhelmed by the kind messages of support from everyone who knew them and from all the rugby clubs in North Wales and further afield.
“Our thoughts are now with the families at this heart-breaking time and we send our heartfelt condolences.”
