My choice for surprise cut would be Jordan Poyer. We all are hoping that he still has enough game to make a difference for us though I think he may need to prove that somewhat in preseason. At 33, his game has definitely regressed somewhat. His dead cap is only $1M and his cap savings is just a few grand below that so there is no financial obstacle there. There are also several candidates that could oust him including Maye and Needham. Draftee Patrick McMorris might have something to say as well, particularly if Poyer really shows he’s on the decline.
I’m making it sound as if Poyer shouldn’t last the day in Miami but obviously we are hoping for some good intangibles out of Poyer like experience and mentoring for the younger guys, to go along with what he has left in the tank. I think it would take a combination of unexpected rise from one of the other guys and a greater decline than expected from Poyer to see him cut. Improbable but possible.
Jeff Wilson and Ahmed are both gone ! But the bigger surprise could be Berrios. Wanting to keep youth on the roster, but will be a hard decision . Berrios is not great, but he is a solid player who catches the ball goes forward and does not fumble ! This camp will be about beating out another player to be able to make it on the 53. Practice squad will be our lifeline throughout the long season !Last week, I pointed out that AZ Sports had this article in which they picked a “surprise” cut for each of the NFL’s 32 teams during their 2024 training camp. The article had our Miami Dolphins surprise cut as Jeff Wilson. I pointed out that many fans and media types see Wilson as a possible odd man out this year, making him anything but a surprise if he is cut. I then asked the following question-
