Birmingham City hold a trump card in the race against QPR and Portsmouth to sign Celtic defender Bosun Lawal.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs in the Championship and League One after an impressive loan spell at Fleetwood Town during the 2023/24 campaign.
Lawal racked up 42 appearances in the third tier before heading back to Glasgow at the end of the season.
now reports that the defender is ‘wanted’ by the Blues to add a bite to their defence following relegation from the Championship last time out.
Dutch side Fortuna Sittard are also named as a potential suitor while Portsmouth, Derby County, QPR and Wigan Athletic were all also linked in May.
The R’s are in the market for a centre-back with Jake.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic allow the rising star to head out on loan again next season.
But Birmingham World reports that the Midlands club could have the edge if that proves to be the case.
That is because Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has worked under Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers before.
If the Hoops manager is keen for Lawal to improve in a system he can trust, that could be a boost for the Blues.
At Fleetwood Town, the defender was initially working under former Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.
Lawal was called up to the Ireland senior squad last month despite having never made his league debut for Celtic.
The player has appeared once for the Scottish Premiership club, in a Scottish Cup match in January 2023.
