Alphraretta, Georgia Four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley of Milton shocked everyone on Tuesday by declaring his commitment to Florida State instead of Georgia, the presumptive favorite, and LSU, a rival.
following speaking with Wiley following the commitment, Ben Wolk of 247Sports obtained his opinion on how the Seminoles prevailed in acquiring his services. This is the video interview that you saw:
What factors influenced the choice to enroll at FSU?
“I really went down the boxes and see which schools fits me the best”
It’s clear that FSU has had success with receivers similar to you; how did that influence your recruitment?
“It plays a big factor because it shows coach [Ron] Dugans develops receivers and he worked with some of the guys to get them to the league.”
When did you secretly know Florida State was the winner?
“Today”
Did you tell anyone about that, and did the coaches at Florida State anticipate that at all?
“No sir”
Have you had any communication with them?
“I just talked to coach Norvell.”
How did he respond?
“He felt giddy. He exclaimed, “Oh yeah!”
What aspects of this past weekend’s formal visit went well enough for you to feel comfortable making this decision today?
“Really, it was everything. My feelings for Florida State are like coming home every time I visit.”
What exactly about coach Dugans convinced you that this was the best choice in the end?
He has been following my development since my freshman year because he has been recruiting me. While observing practice, I’ve noticed that he is mentoring a few of the boys.”
