Scott Barrett and Codie Taylor, who were previously with the Crusaders, have rejoined them until the end of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
A significant victory for Scott Robertson’s All Black front pack is the two seasoned forwards’ three-year extensions.
Hooker Codie Taylor returned to the Crusaders and looked amazing after taking a whole year off from playing.

Despite his dalliance with Japanese rugby, the 33-year-old will keep contributing his invaluable knowledge to the Crusaders and All Blacks. During his vacation, Taylor was spotted visiting Japan, which raised the possibility that he was going there.
Taylor released a statement saying, “It’s amazing to have the chance to play through another World Cup cycle and wear the jerseys I love for a few more years.”
“As part of my final contract, New Zealand Rugby allowed me to take a break this year. I’m thankful for that, and I’m looking forward to the future with renewed energy.
“With our young family, my wife Lucy and I are really settled in Christchurch, so it was an easy decision to stay here in New Zealand.”
Considering their coach-captain relationship at the Crusaders, Lock Barrett is one of the two favorites to succeed Robertson as the next All Blacks captain, but he is an important member of the All Blacks already.
Barrett is seen as an automatic starter in the second row for the All Blacks following the losses of Sam Whitelock and Brodie Retallick, underscoring the significance of his re-signing.
The 30-year-old, who has already earned 69 Test caps, has the potential to become an All Black centurion. He has also led the Crusaders to four Super Rugby championships.
Regarding his decision to resign, Barrett stated, “Being able to put my hand up for another World Cup cycle was a big motivation.” Representing my club and country has always been an honor.
“Hannah, I, and our little kid are thrilled to have clarity, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter.”
Naturally, Roberston, the new head coach of the All Blacks, was pleased that the two leaders would be retained for the upcoming World Cup.
“Codie and Scott have a great impact that extends beyond the field; they are talented, charismatic leaders who infuse their teams with energy and leadership. They set an example for all around them by driving to high standards every day, the speaker stated.
“Codie’s commitment to his craft is apparent every time he steps on the field, and Scott is one of the most tactically astute players in the game. He also commands the respect and mana of his teammates and coaches.”
The fact that they have both committed to finishing 2027 is excellent news for rugby in New Zealand.
