Even though the NFL season hasn’t started yet, some players appear to be stoking a well-established animosity. Chants of “Green Bay Sucks” unexpectedly burst out on Sunday while Chicago Bears rookies Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze were out and about in Old Crow, Chicago, enjoying the night. Williams and Odunze even raised their arms in time with the chanting, giving the impression that they were enjoying the entire experience. According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, here is the video.
Of course, this infuriated the Wisconsin-based fan base, given the longstanding rivalry between the Bears and the Green Bay Packers. The video offended a lot of X users, and they weren’t afraid to voice their opinions.
Football fans always enjoy watching the Bears and Packers battle fiercely whenever they meet on the field. It should come as no surprise given the past experiences of the two teams. The Chicago-Green Bay rivalry is one of the most legendary in the league’s history and has lasted for many years.
The Bears have a 95-107 record versus their opponents dating back to 1921. There have been six ties in the games. Chicago has taken home nine NFL championships in all, including one Super Bowl. Conversely, the Packers have won four Super Bowls, making up about one-third of their total 13 titles.
Is it possible for Rome Odunze and Caleb Williams to bridge the gap between the two teams? Though it won’t be simple, if everything goes right, the newcomers may be able to leave a lasting impression on the Bears.

Williams has a lot of responsibility to lead the Bears to victory as the first overall selection in the 2024 draft. While his collegiate record is quite impressive, it is too early to tell how well he will do. Williams, the 2022 AP College Player of the Year, began his playing career in Oklahoma before moving to USC. In his sophomore year, he ran for 10 more touchdowns in addition to throwing for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns. In the end, he received the 2022 Heisman Trophy. Williams completed his three years in the NCAA with 10,082 throwing yards and 93 passing touchdowns.
Odunze, on the other hand, played wide receiver for four years in Washington, where he and his club qualified for the playoffs the previous season. Odunze recorded 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns in 92 receptions as a senior, with a reception average of 17.8 yards. By all accounts, he was an All-American in 2023. Odunze was also included on the Pac-12 All-Star squad twice (2022, 2023).
The Bears have signed further important players in addition to Williams and Odunze to boast a strong offense in 2024. When September rolls around, Caleb Williams will have no shortage of weapons thanks to the arrival of Keenan Allen and D’Andre Swift. Put another way, there’s no doubt that the next games against the Packers will be exciting.
