Shortstop Edmundo Sosa was sidelined the night before the Philadelphia Phillies’ game against the St. Louis Cardinals due to left hamstring strain, according to manager Rob Thomson, who stated, “We don’t need any more hamstrings hurt around here.”
Unfortunately, Brandon Marsh left the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with what the team described as a right hamstring strain, meaning the Phillies did not escape Sunday’s extra-inning loss without losing another player to an injury.
After the game, not much was updated. According to manager Rob Thomson, Marsh is currently on a day-to-day basis; however, additional assessment is scheduled. Marsh didn’t talk to the media after the game because he was receiving treatment.
Trea Turner missed over a month due to a left hamstring strain, but there’s no reason to believe Sosa will be out for a long time. When he will return is still unknown. It would be devastating to lose Marsh, who had an evening OPS of.878 versus right-handed pitching, especially since Turner is also out at the moment.
Although Weston Wilson currently has a.684 OPS at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, he might be brought up to replace Marsh on the 40-man roster. Currently playing at Triple-A, former All-Star David Dahl is having a fantastic season, hitting.340 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs, and a 1.076 OPS. To be called up, the left-handed hitting outfielder would have to be added to the 40-man roster. Whit Merrifield, Kody Clemens, and Cristian Pache would all be contenders for extra at-bats in Marsh’s absence.
When the Phillies play the Milwaukee Brewers and Rhys Hoskins in their opening three-game series at Citizens Bank Park tomorrow, more information will be available.
