In a tragic turn of events, a United Airways commercial flight crashed earlier today, resulting in multiple fatalities and several injuries. The flight, which was en route from Denver to Seattle, lost contact with air traffic control approximately 45 minutes after takeoff. Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke trailing from the aircraft before it disappeared from radar and eventually went down in a remote, wooded area in northern Idaho.
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site, located about 60 miles northeast of Spokane. Due to the dense forest and rough terrain, rescue operations were challenging, but crews managed to reach the scene within two hours of the incident. Upon arrival, they found the wreckage scattered over a wide area, with sections of the fuselage heavily damaged and partially burned.
Officials confirmed that there were 104 people on board, including passengers and crew. As of this evening, 67 survivors have been rescued and transported to nearby hospitals. Some are in critical condition, while others are being treated for burns, fractures, and shock. Sadly, authorities have also confirmed 31 fatalities. Recovery efforts are ongoing, and the number may change as search teams continue combing through the debris.
Families of the passengers have been notified, and United Airways has set up emergency support lines and counseling services. The airline released a statement expressing deep sorrow and promising full cooperation with investigators to determine the cause of the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation. While the cause remains unknown, early reports suggest a possible engine failure or mid-air mechanical issue. Black box recorders have been located and are being analyzed for more information.
President has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and praised the bravery of the rescue teams. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic accident,” he said in a brief address.
