“During my time as head coach at Tennessee, I faced numerous challenges that went beyond just on-field performance. While my abilities as a coach and my commitment to the players were never in question, the environment surrounding college football is undeniably complex. Factors such as administrative expectations, fan engagement, and media scrutiny can weigh heavily on any coach’s tenure.

While there were aspects of our game plan and player development that showed promise, I understood that perception plays a significant role in leadership. Ultimately, it may not have been my coaching capabilities that led to my departure, but rather a misalignment with the university’s direction and desires for the program’s future.

As I reflect on my time, I remain grateful for the opportunity and continue to support the Vols, hopeful that the program can find the right path ahead. Every experience is a lesson, and I’m eager to apply what I’ve learned in my next chapter.”
